Hey there everyone.

Much to say. First, i'm slowly starting to work on the web site (emeraldfrequency.com). It's been a long time since it was redone. :p As it is, i've updated a few spots, but there is much much much more as of yet!

I have a show cancellation to announce. Due to odd ticket chances and such, Emerald Frequency will sadly not be able to play at Transformus this year. But in other news, we will be playing at the Burning Man festival in Nevada in August. *grins* Those who know about Burning Man know that while it is a music festival (among many many other things), it’s not a music festival. lol We make our own stage, usually. Bands are not booked, but they show, and they share their music for free. It’s been the place of performance for many, including Joan Baez and Jason Webley (and i heard a rumour that Tool was there a couple of years ago. ;p) I cannot say where you’ll be able to find us at any certain time, i may never be able to say when and where, but that’s how it works, right? ;) We’ll be there almost the entire week, and sometimes, we’ll be playing randomly in the right place for the moment. If you’re going, let us know! :) I’ve never been there before (though i’ve been to regionals), and i’m WICKED excited!
EDIT: Every evening, you just might be able to find us at 4:30 and D-Street by the giant ketchup bottle. If we're not there, you can at least ask the ketchup bottle folks, as they are friends of ours. :)

I hope you're all doing awesomely well, and enjoying the summer days, as well as thunder-ee nights. *grins*

It's been a bit crazy around here, and i'm posting a short blog to let everyone not in the Myspace world know what's been going on...

Sir William (my dad and 1/2 of Emerald Frequency) was hospitalized twice late March and earlier April. Heart trouble. He's not at all back to normal, though he is healing. We have not been booking gigs on purpose, because he is not prepared for live performance right now.

We have two remaining gigs booked currently (and they were booked quite awhile ago, understandably.) The Ohio regional Burning Man event "Scorched Nuts", and the same in North Carolina (yes, we are returning to "Transformus".) Ohio's in June, NC's in July.
Yes, we will still be doing these performances.

The upcoming album has been put on hold for the time being (for obvious reasons), but i promise you: It will be released!

So yeah...he's also quit his day job (which was basically killing him), and i'm on the hunt for a day job myself. *crosses her fingers*

Stay cool, kids. *hugs*

Fire and Light,
~Starlie~

Hey kids,

I've three things to note, so get some popcorn...:p

First off, my computer crashed on December 23rd, and it took about a week to get internet back. I'm still very behind, and can't update the web site yet, but the Myspace is mostly kept updated.

Second: We've a gig this Saturday at the Arabica in North Royalton. 8pm - 10pm. Hope to see you there!

Third (and the most exciting): We are going into the studio this month (January) to begin recording our first album. That's all i can tell you, really, aside from the fact that it will have many of the favorite tunes on it. We don't have a release date yet, but i will make such a big news announcement when we do, believe me: You won't miss it. ;)

I hope everyone had a righteous holiday season!

Fire and Light,
~Starlie~
Emerald Frequency

P.S.
The new Duhks album and Loreena McKennitt's new album are both amazing. I highly suggest you check them both out. *grins*

1:51 am - Poor Richard's Invasion!
Hello freakazoids, and happy Christmastime!

Well now, we've got two more performances booked before the end of the year, and they just happen to be on the same weekend, and they just happen to be at the same place! But it's one of our favorite places to play, so we don't mind.

POOR RICHARD'S TAVERN
33312 Center Ridge Rd.
North Ridgeville, Ohio
December 15th and 16th, both starting at 8pm

We've pulled out a few Christmas/Yule tunes for your enjoyment. But worry not, there'll be no Jingle Bells and Frosty the Freakin' Snowman. In fact, if you've heard of any one of the songs we've picked, we'll give you many many points (for life is like a video game?) But they are very cool tunes. Oh yes, you will like them. And one of them is certainly an original written by Sir Willy himself, and it's had fantastical reviews thus far.

I hope to see you good folk this weekend. And if not, have a righteous holiday! Careful of the crazy family, and don't drink too much eggnog. ;)

This summer has been wicked crazy, and i sort of fell behind on the blog. Sorry about that!

What did you miss? Well, we performed in North Carolina at the righteous "Transformus" again, like last year. That was awesome, i must say.
I also was very busy with a musical i was in ("Godspell"). The last performance was this last Saturday night though, and now i can mainly focus on the band again. Oy, that was a bit too much of my brain to handle.

But we are getting back on our feet, and happily, i have updated the "dates" page with six new performances scheduled, not including a St. Patrick's Day gig next March. :) And so i bring them forth, o lovelies. See you all soon!

Heyhey, we're taking over! Well, maybe not, but if you pick up the latest issue of "The Sun Star" (found in Strongsville and North Royalton), you will find us on the front page. A nice lil article written by a most kind lady who interviewed us at our gig last Saturday.
Let me note though, that they got the date wrong on something. Our Parma Arabica performance is on the 7th of April, not the 31st of March!
Ah well.
In other news, we will be on a local TV station with an interview and a one or two song performance. Keep an eye on the blog here, we'll write right away when we find out when!

As a side note, i just uploaded a few photos i've taken somewhat recently at local open mics (Johnny Malloy's and Century Tavern, taken tonight). Some really great and talented musicians there.
Gallery here.

Speaking of which, there is a mighty fine pub on the West side in need of some customers! There's an open mic every Thursday night, and thus far, the musicians that have gone there have been simply amazing! I highly suggest you check it out!

1:54 am - Silly computer bugs...
Happy Christmas, everyone!

Contrary to what you may have thought, we are still alive! ;) Sorry we've gotten so quiet. It's basically because my computer almost totally crashed back on the 2nd of December. You'll notice that royaltonplayers.com isn't updated either: That's because i am the webmaster for that as well. Not cool at all, i know. I can't update it right now, but hopefully, i will be able to update everything. Wow...stuff is crazy, i tell ya!

We do have 4 gigs ready for January and February though. Check out http://www.steve2.net for a hint at one of those performances. More info on the others very soon.

Again, sorry about this, guys! I really do hate computers. :p

We did a Halloween Party last night (Saturday, October 15th). Nice people. Unluckily, it was very windy. (This wind knocked William's Les Paul - very heavy guitar - over onto him!) There was also a bonfire, and the smoke from the bonfire liked to get at us. Not at all easy conditions to perform in, but we had a pretty good time. Good times especially when friends Xe-La (and his friend Chris) and Ryann "Guitar" Anderson came. A group of us just hung out and talked and laughed. Xe-La never fails to make me smile. He truly rocks.

Upcoming gigs are at the Arabicas in Parma and Cleveland. More info later on when i can find the addresses. *ha* (Good thing i don't drive to these gigs!)

Oh, by the way, if you want to see me screw up on lighting and sound for a local play, come see "Barefoot In The Park" this coming weekend (and the weekend after that) by the Royalton Players. It's actually a pretty funny play if you don't know about it, and the actors are good.

1:11 am - A lesson and funny story
For the first time, Emerald Frequency went to the open mic at B-Side tonight. You know, it's in the same building as the Grog Shop. It actually very much reminded me of the Grog Shop. Very, er...Grog-Shoppish. The mighty Xe-La was hostin' it. Good to see him again.

So there were 3 other acts on before us, right? They were all the jazzy blues-ee rockish sort of stuff i expected. Not bad, actually. Some good funky stuff goin' on. But that was the trouble: From what i could tell, that's what B-Side was. The place, the people and the music were all the jazzy blues-ee rockish thing, you know? So we (Emerald Frequency) were sitting there, starting to think that these very hip funky people would perhaps boo us off the stage. We didn't leave though.

Then it came time for us to perform. We did three songs (Lakes of Pontchartrain, Eppie Morrie and Stretch), and the more we performed the more we drew energy within ourselves. We pushed ourselves more than usual. I think for some points, i sounded more like Fiona Apple than what people are used to me sounding like. For both of us, we performed from our very souls, and played our hearts out. The audience loved us! More attention, applause, "woo"s and cheers than i remember hearing that whole evening. It was so funny, because like i noted before, we were most sure that they would hate us. I got that these were very cool people, and i knew i loved this place whether it loved me back or hated me, but you can imagine...it wasn't what we were expecting.

Many thank-yous to the folks who were there tonight. I'm glad you enjoyed us, and i imagine that we will be back.

P.S.
Right on: Great to hear of other Bitch and Animal fans!

Fire and Light,
~Starlie~

Real P.S.
You know...we really like to play out. It's a passion of ours. Emerald Frequency likes the word "gigs". It makes us smile. So, o good fans of ours, if you have the power to get us a gig of any sort, we would eternally love ya for it! Not to sound desperate, but we're still workin' on getting the name out. Unluckily, many places won't hire lesser known bands, so getting your name out isn't as easy as you think.

We got to see the Duhks perform live on Sunday. Oh WOW! They were amazing! Man, what a HOT band! And what a great time!

If you somehow have never heard them, then go check them out at duhks.com. you can hear song clips on their "music" section, and i highly suggest "Mists of Down Below" and "Death Came A Knockin'".

Hey folks, there be some new web site updates. My bio is updated (that's "Starlie"), and both of us have a new bio photo. On a more exciting note, there are a mess of new links in the "links" section. I haven't updated it in nearly a year! Sheesh!

4:14 pm - New tune!
Just a wee lil update for ya'll. (Did you see that? That was Irish/Ani DiFranco/North Carolina all at the same time.)

There is a new tune up on the net from us to you. It's called "Dawn Treader", and William wrote it. It's inspired by the Narnia books that C. S. Lewis wrote. Check it out on our myspace, or at our "listen" section. (same song, just your choice.) Hope you muchly (muchly!) enjoy it. It's one of our most recent songs.

Actually, you will be able to hear it if you come to the Arabica in Parma this Friday night at 8pm. We will be performing there for a couple of hours. Come have a good time! Support local music! 'Cause local music rocks!

5:49 pm - Whole new photo gallery!
I've spent way too much time on the computer today. *blah*! But there's a reason for that! Ladies and gentlemen, i'm very happy to bring to you

The new photo album!

It's got four different sections right now (Miscellaneous, Transformus '05, Hessler Street Fair '05 and Promotional). Currently, everything under "Miscellaneous" is what was on the photos page before. Oooo, i'm all giddy and proud! Oh, and please, if you find a bug (like an image that won't load or a broken link), please let me know.

In other news, we have a gig coming up. Come keep us company ~

Strike that: Bravenet is evil and buried in ads unless you pay them $50. Bah! Bah, say i! The photo gallery will be on emeraldfrequency.com, which means it'll take more time and sanity away from me. Oh well. C'est la vie, folks. I'm off to continue to work on this big project i've buried myself in. (I'm very good at that, you know.)

12:59 am - Another Lil Update
I am currently in the middle of uploading a mess of new photos for the photo gallery. Going on my lack of time, i just registered an online gallery thing with bravenet.com. I don't really have the time to make the pages and the thumbnails and such, so i'll have Bravenet do it for me. It will have ads, and please pardon that, but they're not pop-up, thankfully! Anyway...like i said, there are a *ton* of new photos. These are basically from the Hessler Street Fair and from Transformus. Also 2 new promo photos. *whew*

We were able to experience the Dublin Irish Festival down in the more Southern Ohio. What a great time! Eileen Ivers was especially wicked!

NOTE TO SELF: Really think about the kind of projects you get into in the future. Working with my dad as Emerald Frequency is interesting and wicked funny. The latest amusing ditty i'll share with you is one that happened a couple of weeks ago. We've added the Saw Doctors song "Share the Darkness" to our songlist. Yesss, that's including the Irish Gaelic part, which i sing. Dad (William) sings the main vocal. You know, he'll be going along just fine, and then forget the words, and this happened at one of the rehearsals. I started to sing along with him to help him out (being the huge Saw Doctors fan that i am, i know any random S.D. tune by heart), and he went "oh quit it! i'll figure it out!" "fine then!" "fine!" Ah, life with dad. ;) Crazy!

We have a whole mess of photos that we'll be adding to the web site. This includes more than one new promo photo. We're all happy about that because our current promo photo is almost two years old. For me, that was many hair colours ago! C'mon, folks! Anyway, they were all taken at Transformus, and they came out really well (which is not a surprise: dad and i were smiling the huge majority of the time!). Many thanks to our most wonderful friend Todd Bush (AKA Kathmandu) for being our photographer friend.

Here's a sneak preview photo )

At least one more date will be added to the "dates" page, and i also have some stuff i have yet to put up from the Hessler Street Fair. (Man, i am behind. Sorry about that folks! Life is crazy sometimes.)

We're back from Transformus. It was...an experience. I'll never be able to articulate it well, but Ms. Maya (one of the good people who was there) worded it well:

Like balloons soaring into a mystic sky,
our spirits soared together in the magic we created.
We were high on love, fire, freedom, and exotic existence,
only to each return to our mundane realities,
with an ungentle pop and fizzle and fall.
Together and yet alone, we talk and dream to ourselves.
Old friends reach out and we have no words to explain.
We can show them pretty pictures but all in vain.

The "Hum and Hug" theme camp was a hit. One of our good jammers worded it well: it was a musical playground, with everything from fiddle to 12 string guitar to sitar to oud to djembe to numerous kinds of flutes and so much more. A lot of incredible music was created there, and i'm very happy to report that Kathmando recorded some of the best of it.

I believe we have two new gigs set, but more on that later. I'm still trying to gather my brain cells. Many of them fell out at Transformus, and i imagine i will never get them back, but i'm okay with that. :)

Sláinte,

Dia dhuit!

We've just confirmed a show for August 20th at Clays Park. Emerald Frequency and the very cool band Witch Hazel* will be the great tunes there that day. Past events at Clays Park include the Yankee Peddler Festival and the Rock N Resort Festival. (Which includes such artists as Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Ian Hunter, Grand Funk Railroad, War, The Guess Who and the local band Moshambo.)

*More info on Witch Hazel )

In other news, William (aka "dad") and i are getting ready to leave for North Carolina on Monday. Yes, we're going down there for Transformus, which, as you may know, Emerald Frequency will be performing at this year. Should be an amazing experience!
Also, as previously mentioned, we will be a part of a "theme camp" there. Should you be lucky enough to come to Transformus as well, you are welcome to come and jam with us and many other goos musicians. Yes, that's what we'll pretty much be doing all weekend. Oooh my fingers are already feeling tired, just by the thought of it! But hey, it's music. You musicians know what i mean: I'm playing all weekend, happily, whether it kills me or not!

Just one other note: don't forget that the Irish festival in Berea is coming up. We'll be out of town for that one (sadly), but make sure to see all the great bands, especially the Fenians and Cleveland's very cool celtic rock band Brace Yourself Bridget. (And support local music by buying their CD after their performance: it's brilliant!)

Monday night and last night saw Emerald Frequency hosting open mics.
The one on Monday at McNamara's was slow, as can be imagined. Somehow, we all ended up sitting at the bar watching fireworks on TV. Had four talented musicians perform for us though, including a fellow who sang in Spanish. It was quite a treat!

Last night was at the Phoenix in Lakewood. What a crazy little world! 18 very talented people performed their music and poetry. (Two of them were at the open mic at McNamara's the night before: St. Andrew and Gene.) We had the poetry of Christopher Steele and the funky (and painfully funny) Punk Rock Cell Phone Duet. Rachel, Mark, Monica, Steve...random songs about Jess being a theater person, and not to mention Mr. Prickles: the racing porcupine! (I told you this place was wicked crazy: it was great!)

We might be going back there next Tuesday. (Not sure yet.) By then i think Xe La will be back.

Until later, kiddies,

Last night's gig at the Arabica in Parma was great! Thanks to all the good folks who came out to see us! You guys rock like socks, i tell ya! It was great! Performance included me doing a few Irish dancing steps, singing in Gaelic, and a very new tune we just added by the name of "Stretch". (Very full of energy, that one.)

Just a reminder, we'll be hosting a couple of open mics soon. That's Monday and Tuesday night of this week. Come keep us company, or better yet: perform! Musicians, poets, etc. are all welcome!
